Angels Landing, Zions National Park

This past weekend I decided out of complete impulse to go and surprise one of my best friends for her Birthday! It was a non-stop weekend, we all had such a blast. On Saturday we decided to go hike Angels Landing, we were getting pretty discouraged on our way there when it decided to start rain, but we decided to keep driving hoping that it would clear up.  We pulled up to the entrance to Zion's park and decided to ask the ranger if the hike was safe , and if by chance the weather was going to clear up. She told us yes, then proceeded to tell us that it was closed for search and rescue this morning but we should be fine to hike it now. All that was going through my head at the time was, "SERIOUSLY?! You just had to tell me THAT of all things?!" definitely not something that you want to hear, kind of freaked all of out.

The hike was difficult for me, let's just throw it out there…. I'm out of shape. The hike was full of steep switch backs at the beginning. The last 0.5 miles of the hike was were the "fun" began, there were chains for the rest of the way up since it was so narrow. We met a lot of very friendly interesting people along the trail, including a 77 ….. Yes 77 Year old man, hiking with his son. What an inspiration to all of who hiked that day and crossed their path, I hope that when I get to the age I'm still ambitious as he is.

We were all burnt out by the end of the hike, we all decided to go down by the river to go and try to cool off a little bit. There was another group down there already and they all jumped into the river to cool down. We all didn't exactly want to get all sopping wet but we decided to just dip our feet into the water.

Gradually throughout the hike the sky got clearer and clearer, it turned out to be such a gorgeous day. I have to say this was probably one of the more difficult hikes that I have done, but I'm sure glad that I pushed my self to be able to complete it. It makes me want to get more in shape for next summer and do a lot more difficult and challenging hikes. I personally have never been to Zion's I was amazed how gorgeous it was! I have learned to appreciate what a gorgeous state Utah is, going on all of these hikes I have been lately. Utah has such gorgeous secrets that you have to go out and search for, so why not go appreciate what we have been given?!

Stewart Falls

It's amazing to think what a beautiful world we live in, living in Utah we are very privileged to have such beautiful mountains that surround us. I love hiking, once it starts to get warm I get all excited about hearing about new hikes that I can go on. All of us that live in Utah County have heard of Bridal Veil falls, super short 10 min hike right at the beginning of Provo Canyon but nonetheless its absolutely gorgeous. I have heard a lot about hiking Stewart Falls and honestly thought it was connected to Bridal Veil falls, boy was I wrong. It's in a completely different part of Provo Canyon near Sundance and Aspen Grove tucked away where you can't see it from the local road.

The hike to the falls was a little bit interesting, we had a little trouble trying to find the trail head since there were no signs leading us to Stewart Falls, all the Signs there said Timp. Trail. We finally asked someone nearby where the start of the hike was, he pointed us in the general direction and we still had a little trouble finding it. There was a trail but it looked a little to steep for it to be a family friendly trail. We couldn't see any other trail so we decided to trudge up the steep hill, what a great way to start off a hike right? The rest of the hike went pretty smooth, there was a lot of gorgeous scenery along the way it reminded us all of the "Sound of Music".

We finally got to the point where we could see the falls, we got to a point were the trail just seemed to end (I was the one leading by that time) so I chose to go right and take the most difficult way to the falls which included, rock climbing and sliding on the dirt with our bums.

By the time we got to the falls we realized that there was a much safer way and there was actually a trail to get down there without sliding and getting all dirty. If you ask me hiking is worth the end result the beautiful ending that you get, we hiked up the falls to were a ton of little water falls formed a little stream which eventually turned into the big water fall at the bottom. One of the most breathtaking scenes I have ever seen. We stayed up there for a little while just in awe of our beautiful surroundings.

When we decided to head back we take the "smart" way back and followed the trail the whole way back, we did however encounter a snake that looked like a ginormous worm, and I freaked everybody out by screaming when I almost stepped on it. Hiking Stewart Falls makes me want to go/do all of these hikes that I have never done before, hopefully by the time it hits winter I can go on a few more other than that I guess I will have to plan a lot for next summer!

Making memories last a lifetime.

In high school I had a lot of friends that would take millions of pictures, me personally, thought it was annoying and WAY overdone. These last couple of months I have been going through all of my old stuff and realized that I don't have very many pictures or videos that document that best times of my life. There are instances where I get together with old friends and we reminisce about hilarious, embarrassing, adventurous, amazing, and fun times of our past unfortunately most of those times we don't have pictures of. I have realized recently why the reason all of my friends took pictures constantly, having memories to share for a lifetime, If you don't you'll regret it. When I grow up, get married, and have children I want my children, and grand children to see how weird I truly was.

Day 10 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: Daily Routine

I'm a pretty O.C.D. person I have certain things that I absolutely have to do during the week. If I don't do those certain things it feels like my whole day goes to pieces.  I'm not going to sit here and list off every specific thing that I do each day because lets face it, that would just take to long and bore you all to tears. Yes, I'm the type of person who has certain rituals that I have to do every Morning and Night. I think that we are all like that for the most part, or maybe I like to think that to make myself feel a little better :)

Day 8 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: Biggest Pet Peeve

Oh, this has got to be my favorite thing to talk about. I don't necessarily think that I have a lot of pet peeves but there are certain manors that everyone should have. I would have to say that the top one of my list would have to be chewing with your mouth open. Let's be honest no one wants to see chewed up food that's in your mouth. I think the thing that bothers me the most with that is the sound that everyone makes when they chew with their mouths open. Yes, we know that food is delish but you don't need to make a statement every time you take a bite. If you chew with your mouths open around me, don't worry I will let you know. I know this all might sound a bit harsh to some people but to me it's like scratching nails on a chalk board.

Seven Peaks Saturday

My whole family has pass of all passes and whenever we are bored or have nothing better to do we go to Seven Peaks, Why not right?! It's always a blast whenever we go… it's a place where we can all just go and do our own thing but be together as a family at the same time. This last Saturday we went with a couple of us in the family. Alison and Erik joined us as well even though it was their Anniversary. We all had fun  in the sun :)

My Best Friends/ Sisters Wedding

Friday was my best Friends wedding, I started the day off at 4 AM woke up got myself ready and made it to her house by 6 AM to get her hair and make - up done before they had to head off to the temple. It was the sweetest thing as we were doing her hair and make - up her sweet soon-to-be husband came downstairs and told her that he had made breakfast for her (men, please take note every woman deserves this same treatment) When we were all done getting her all beautified and gorgeous for her big day I gave her a hug and wished her the best of luck during the sealing since, unfortunately I wasn't able to go in and join them since I have no been through the temple. I was going to make sure that I was outside the temple waiting for her as she walked out with her new husband

(Doing the Bride's Hair at 6 AM)

the day couldn't go more perfect. It was super sunny outside , the sky was blue with no clouds in sight, and it wasn't to hot that all of us were melting outside. The moment that her and her husband stepped out of those temple doors I couldn't believe that she was married. I wrote in an earlier blog post that it's so crazy that we are old enough to be getting married and having kids. Anyways back to the wedding day, She looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding dress. The draper temple was just as beautiful as ever, when I arrived at the temple I went and sat down by her brothers  and one of them didn't even recognize me I don't think that I've changed THAT much since we lost each other but maybe I did… eh who know ha :)

During the Luncheon I sat down by all of her old roommates and friends from high school who I didn't really know any of them besides heather her photographer (who is an amazing photographer by the way) It was fun sitting and talking with all of them and getting to know them. Her mom made a little slide show of both Kinsley and Drew with pictures of them both growing up, It was hard not to cry while watching that. After that was all over I went to go say goodbye to Kinsley as I left the Luncheon and just started crying. I honestly was trying super hard not to cry but I completely lost it, I couldn't believe that my best friend and sister was married, but it was good to know that she had an amazing guy as her husband.

(The Bride & Me, Doesn't She Look Stunning?)

In between the luncheon and the reception I went home to go take a power nap since only having two hours of sleep catches up to you and bites you in the butt. During the reception, Heather and I went to the nearest grocery store to grab some decorations for their car...lets just say that it looked awesome!
The rest of their reception was so much fun, it was good seeing old neighbors that I haven't been able to see in forever and catch up with all of the old friends. I caught the bouquet :) but we will see if that tradition is true or not ha. As they were getting ready to leave the reception I couldn't help but cry again but at the same time I'm so happy for her and her husband. I can't wait for them to be able to join me when I get married (whenever that time comes! Ha ha)

Day 7 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: What's your dream job?

My dream job ever since I have been a little girl has been to be Cinderella at Disneyland. I  honestly think that would be the coolest job to have. I always have people say well wouldn't that be miserable to stand out in the heat all day in a huge dress? Well, of course if you think of it that way ya, of course it wouldn't be the best job in the world. The way that I look at it who wouldn't want to be a princess just for a day? Let's face it every little girls dream is to be a princess one day, our dad's call us their little princesses and of course on our wedding days each of us is a princess but how incredible would it be to get all dolled up just for a day? Have all these little kids look up to you and just adore you. I might sound a little crazy but I think that would be the coolest thing in the world! Unfortunately to be apart of the cast at Disneyland you have to be under a certain height and for me I'm way taller than what they require.

Since I can't achieve my dream to be Cinderella at Disneyland I have a back- up dream job.  I've always wanted to go into the Dentistry field I don't know why but teeth have always fascinated me. I'm currently trying to achieve my dream job, I'm in school in the dental hygiene  program and I absolutely love it.  I have the most amazing Doctor that I internship for and get to watch all these really neat surgeries. I have definitely had the best experience with it so far. I'm only a year and a half away from being able to earn my degree and who knows I might just go in to Dental School and become a dentist.

Throw Back Thursday/ #TBT

I wanted to do a blog post in honor of #tbt, today I decided to pick a picture from my high school days when I was a cheerleader. Earlier this week I ran into one of the Cheer Coaches at my old high school, she has said that my name was brought up during practice that day because one of my old Cheer Coaches broke her nose during practice trying to fill in as a back spot while they were stunting.

Well to explain this a little we have to go back to my very first year as a cheerleader, I of course was a back spot in our stunt group. Before a basketball game we were warming up and practicing our stunts, well unfortunately one of our stunts went wrong and I got hit in the face, resulting in my nose being broken. Well I went to the doctor, got surgery on it and went to school the next week with a black eye and a cast on my nose. While rumors circulated around school that I got a nose job, I didn't...lets be honest what fifteen year old in her right mind would get a nose job? Hello, I would have at least waited until after high school to do that… :)

Every year after that I broke my nose during cheer practice resulting in a whapping four nose breaks, I think that I must have a record or something… Well after the second time breaking my nose my Dad had had enough and took me to the nearest sporting goods store to get a….wait for it….. Nose guard… yes everyone I actually wore a nose guard! It was probably the most humiliating thing that I ever had to do. During cheer camps I could have sworn that everyone stopped what they were doing and looked my direction when I put that ugly thing on.

During cheer practice we made it something that we just laughed off. I had my own theme song when ever I put it on, (to the tune from the batman theme song) "na na na na na na na na EMMA!" Ya, I was pretty much the coolest ninja turtle out there. At times I honestly felt really safe having it on, even though I didn't want to admit it most of the time it freaked me out to stunt most of the time, but who wants to be the wimpy cheerleader who doesn't stunt? Not me!

The nose guard now sits in a box in my room and whenever I pull it out all of these great memories come with it. Every time  we have get togethers' with people from high school the subject of remember when you broke your nose? All because of these incidents in High School of breaking my nose I was voted the most clumsy, my brothers gave me the nick name of plastic spastic, and everyone has a good laugh reliving the first day that I broke my nose. I don't mind that I get teased for it honestly, it makes for a good memory and a VERY good laugh.

Day 6 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: Your last random act of kindness

This is kind of a tough one to come up with, I honestly try to do something nice for someone every day. I don't sit and count all the nice things that I do for someone, I think that would defeat the purpose of the whole act. I honestly just have kept a personal goal to reach out to people and help them in any way possible. Those random acts of kindness don't need to be bragged about putting others down, just simple , quiet acts of kindness are the best.

The greatest example of that would be secret sisters, at girls camp or cheer camp we would always have secret sisters. I know that for me when people do  random things for me it always makes me happy, even the ones that I have no clue who did it makes me feel special. It's good to know that people are out there that would go out of their way to do things for me. The main reason why I loved secret sisters is because it taught us that we could do really nice, charitable things for someone else without having to take credit for it. Even though when you do something nice for someone it always warms your heart, but the purpose of doing that act is to help somebody else out, it's not for your own benefit (at least that's my own opinion).

One of my favorite sayings comes from the Hymn "Have I done any good in the world today?" The title says it all. I keep this saying post on my mirror in my room to be as a little reminder to do those random acts of kindness everyday. I honestly believe that if we strive to do one act of kindness for someone everyday that we would find greater joy in life. I know that when I'm feeling down or discouraged the first thing that I turn to is what can I do for someone else?

Crazy How Times Flies

It's hard to believe that we are all at the age where its okay to get married, it seems that life has all just passed by way to quickly. First it was weird to think that I was old enough to graduate and all my friends were leaving on mission, now it's weird to think that I have friends that are getting married, having kids, and now friends are starting to get off their mission WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!?

My Best Friend growing up is now getting married ..it's still so hard to think that she is! I still remember making videos as little kids making our own little cooking shows. When our parents wouldn't let us go play  we would get ladders put them up on the fence and just sit on the top of the fence and just chat. We have a lot of childhood memories together, we were inseparable. Last night, Sara and I went over to help her out with trying to figure out how we were going to do her hair for her wedding. Since Sara is going to be out of town the day that Kinsley gets married she came to hang out with us, it was so much fun being able to bring up old stories and just laugh for hours on end about the stupid things we did when we were younger. There are some memories that I would never in a million years take back. Kinsley  gets married this Friday, I'm so excited  and couldn't be happier for her but it's still hard to think that my Best Friend and sister is getting married, it's such a bitter/sweet thing.

Day 5 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: Favorite Movies You Never Get Sick of Watching

Day 5: Favorite Movies You Never Get Sick of Watching

I'm a Disney Fanatic….. I love everything Disney basically,  so of course most Disney movies I never get sick of. In high school me and my friend Anthony  would have Disney movie marathons whenever I was sick (and that was a lot) I still watch them with my nieces and nephews all the time and they are just as cute as ever!

Day 4 out of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: Best Childhood Memory

I honestly have a lot of really good childhood memories, when I was younger (ha ha that makes me sound OLD) every chance that we could get we were always outside playing in the dirt fields. When we first moved into our house in Utah the neighborhoods weren't as developed as they are now. There were a few houses here and there but mostly what surrounded us were these dirt lots. These weren't just ordinary dirt lots they  had huge hills in the middle of each of them, making it a perfect play to go and ride bikes on. Yes, we got hurt a lot especially since our parents kept telling us to keep off of those dirt hills. Most of my childhood I remember spending with my best friends Natasha, Natalia, and Shailee. I first met Natasha and Natalia through their older sister Megdalynn who married my brother Shane. Their was never a dull moment in our lives we always had a huge imagination, for instance we played in this dirt lot and played house dividing our little rooms with rocks. We would always find really random things through the lot such as planks of wood and bottle that people had just left there. We would always get in the biggest fights over the planks of wood.. They would always make our  "houses" look better than the others. They seemed to always get destroyed, but we went back everyday  and rebuilt them. We always found new games to play, during the summer we played school and had real homework assignments that we would actually do. There was another point were all of us were super obsessed with Barbie's (Yes I still have all of my Barbie's, a whole storage bin full of them.) We made little rooms and would always bring all of our Barbie's to each other's houses. I have a lot of other really good childhood memories but that would take to long for me to type… all I have to say is that I had an amazing childhood!

Day 3 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge: What Makes Me Happy?

I could honestly go on and on about things that make me happy in life. I was reading online to get an idea of what to write from what others have posted about what makes them happy. I went on someone's blog and began to read what they had to say about two lines down I read the words "I count my blessings everyday." After reading that a thought popped in my head, usually in the month on November you see everyone posting one thing each day on what they are thankful for. Why can't we do that everyday? Just write down one little simple thing that we are grateful for, I honestly think that it would change everyone's prospective on how blessed we truly are.

Another thought that I had while brainstorming on what to write is trying to figure out what truly makes me happy. A lot of things make me happy like food, going on trips, shopping, having my own car, ect. But trying to look a little deeper into why they make me happy. Take going on trips for example sure they are relaxing, you get away from all of your troubles for a little while it seems like but what aspect makes me truly happy? Could it be driving in a car with my best friend for 12 hours straight and laughing uncontrollably the entire time? Or could it be the peacefulness that I feel while driving on a road with no one else in sight?

I'm going to make a challenge to myself to write down one thing that I'm grateful for each day

Monday Morning Blues

Today I honestly feel like I'm dragging so much at work. Let's just start to list off of the things that could possibly filter into that. First off lets just point out the obvious….it's Monday. I honestly don't really mind Monday's most of the time but today for some reason it's especially hard on me. I woke up earlier than I usually do because I had to get to work early (which honestly didn't happen) because I had a doctors appointment and needed to get some work done that had to get done in the time period. I went to the doctor's to have them do a CT only to get told that I have to wait 2 days to get the results of the scan. All weekend I was in pain and slept for most of it just to just sleep off the pain, that could honestly be one of the factors of feeling so groggy.  I honestly wish that I could have a "do over" button fro this morning, maybe if I would have done that I would be in a better mood. All I want to do right now it's curl up in my bed and go back to sleep, maybe the main reason I'm feeling this way is that I just don't feel that well.  I guess my lunch break I'll be finding a nice secluded church parking lot to take a nap.

Day 2 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge Favorite Quotes

I honestly have a lot of favorite quotes...so many that I can't count on all of my finger and toes combined. The two that have really stuck out to me this week in particular have been:

WHEN LIFE GETS TO HARD TO STAND...KNEEL

GOD NEVER PUTS TRIALS IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU CAN'T OVERCOME

Yes, they are church quotes but they are also good things to keep in the back of your mind. These quotes have helped me out in so many trials in my life  and are still helping me. Never forget that you have someone to comfort you in your time of need. Sure, this life can be hard at times but never give up because some day you will accomplish so many great and wonderful things!
