I wanted to do a
blog post in honor of #tbt, today I decided to pick a picture from my high
school days when I was a cheerleader. Earlier this week I ran into one of the
Cheer Coaches at my old high school, she has said that my name was brought up
during practice that day because one of my old Cheer Coaches broke her nose
during practice trying to fill in as a back spot while they were stunting.
Well to explain this
a little we have to go back to my very first year as a cheerleader, I of course
was a back spot in our stunt group. Before a basketball game we were warming up
and practicing our stunts, well unfortunately one of our stunts went wrong and
I got hit in the face, resulting in my nose being broken. Well I went to the
doctor, got surgery on it and went to school the next week with a black eye and
a cast on my nose. While rumors circulated around school that I got a nose job,
I didn't...lets be honest what fifteen year old in her right mind would get a
nose job? Hello, I would have at least waited until after high school to do
that… :)
Every year after
that I broke my nose during cheer practice resulting in a whapping four nose
breaks, I think that I must have a record or something… Well after the second
time breaking my nose my Dad had had enough and took me to the nearest sporting
goods store to get a….wait for it….. Nose guard… yes everyone I actually wore a
nose guard! It was probably the most humiliating thing that I ever had to do.
During cheer camps I could have sworn that everyone stopped what they were
doing and looked my direction when I put that ugly thing on.
During cheer practice we made it something
that we just laughed off. I had my own theme song when ever I put it on, (to
the tune from the batman theme song) "na na na na na na na na EMMA!"
Ya, I was pretty much the coolest ninja turtle out there. At times I honestly
felt really safe having it on, even though I didn't want to admit it most of
the time it freaked me out to stunt most of the time, but who wants to be the
wimpy cheerleader who doesn't stunt? Not me!
The nose guard now
sits in a box in my room and whenever I pull it out all of these great memories
come with it. Every time we have get
togethers' with people from high school the subject of remember when you broke your
nose? All because of these incidents in High School of breaking my nose I was
voted the most clumsy, my brothers gave me the nick name of plastic spastic,
and everyone has a good laugh reliving the first day that I broke my nose. I
don't mind that I get teased for it honestly, it makes for a good memory and a
VERY good laugh.
